As stated by Chinese President Xi Jinping, “Jingchu culture is an important part of Chinese civilization and holds a pivotal position in the history of Chinese civilization”. Hubei is the important birthplace of the Yangtze River Civilization and Chu Culture. As an evolutionary hub of early humans, Hubei is home to the "Jianshi homo erectus" dating back approximately 1.95 to 2.15 million years, the oldest human species ever discovered on the Asian continent. The Emperor Yan, known as Shennong and the ancestor of the Chinese people, was born here.
